| Leon Samadi (JKD Centre - Instructor) |
(bio and photo forthcoming) |
| Shawn Zirger (JKD Centre - Sifu & Founder) |
has been training since 1980, gaining experience and exposure in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Thai martial arts. In 1989 Shawn began to pursue a career in health care, earning diplomas and certification as a Homeopath, Acupuncturist and most notably, Massage Therapist. Shawn has always honoured the full meaning of the term Warrior, respecting that in ancient Eastern and Western philosophies, one was not considered to be a warrior simply because they could fight. In early 1991 Shawn met Makoto Kabayama, a Senior Full Instructor under the renowned Sifu Paul Vunak know for their roles in teaching the elite Navy Seal teams in the U.S. before Makoto returned to Toronto to build The JKD Family of Instructors, now a highly respected group of combatants in the Bruce Lee / Dan Inosanto line.
Shawn made it his personal goal to promote the JKD Family and his instructor Makoto Kabayama into the main stream of Canadian Martial Arts, believing that reality based training delivers more of the promises of the martial arts than any traditional training format. With this in mind, Shawn founded the JKD Centre in 1998 after receiving the title Full Instructor under Sifu Makoto Kabayama and Sifu Paul Vunak. The Centre is meant to provide an ever improving quality of education in JKD concepts while providing for additional exposure to the many arts that make up the JKD arsenal. |
